Legally Blonde The Musical | Mayflower Theatre, Southampton

Omigod, oh my god you guys!

I knew I HAD to write about a show when I've played the soundtrack NON-STOP since seeing it for the first time on Tuesday. Legally Blonde is a film I LOVED growing up; so many classic lines to quote, and who can forget the Bend and Snap?! With that in mind, I actually had low expectations for the Musical, I thought it would be too cheesy but oh how I was wrong! I saw the show at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton, along with two of my pals Joe & Kalem, and spoiler, we all absolutely loved it.

Legally Blonde The Musical is an all singing, all dancing romantic comedy. It's bright, fun and highly energetic, with a real feel-good factor. Plus, it's surprisingly FUNNY! I was laughing out loud and grinning the whole way through.

College sweetheart and homecoming queen Elle Woods, doesn’t take no for an answer. When her boyfriend dumps her for someone more serious, Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books and heads for Harvard Law School. Along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style. I personally think it's very girly, but that's why I like it so much. It's very 'me'. I came out the theatre and actually felt GOOD, you know that buzzy "YEAH THAT WAS AWESOME!" feeling?! I've seen a lot of shows and musicals on stage but this really left me in a fabulous mood.

Lucie Jones, the actress playing Elle, had big shoes to fill when you're used to Reese Witherspoon in the film however, she was absolutely amazing. Playing Paulette is EastEnders' Rita Simons, best known for playing Roxy Mitchell for which she has won numerous awards and is one of Britain’s best loved actresses. She did not disappoint! The UCLA’s Delta Nu sorority girls were some of my favourites too, they were so much fun and really add to Elle as a character. I loved their total sass and girl boss attitudes!

The songs are so catchy, you'll want to play the soundtrack the minute you're out the theatre! My favourites are "Omigod", "Serious", "What You Want", "Positive", "Ireland", "Legally Blonde" and "Find My Way". Honestly, have a listen on Spotify!

I actually couldn't fault the show at all. It was so perfect that I think I might even prefer it to the film! If you get the chance, the show is currently on it's UK tour, so definitely check your local theatre and book tickets!
