Skincare Saviours | Summer 2017

I'm very fussy when it comes to skincare. I have very dry, eczema-prone skin, alongside an allergy to Fragrance Mix II - a group of perfumes added to products to make them smell nicer, which a dermatologist has pinpointed as the cause of my eczema after we did a patch test a few years ago. It's very rare I try new products, and have become very loyal to these ones in particular, my skincare saviours!

I can be quite lazy when it comes to skincare, working from home means I have a lot of makeup free days, and often just wash my face in the shower. I love using wipes, despite hearing everyone say they're no good for you. They're just so easy and convenient, especially when I'm regularly travelling and staying in different places. Therefore, my first favourite is the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water Wipes. I don't like their original ones at all, they're so drying and don't remove my mascara well enough. However, I'm very loyal to the Micellar Water version! In fact, I always have a stock of about 4 or 5 of these, buying them whenever they're on offer. Simple is a brand I know I can trust for my sensitive skin, love them.

If I've been wearing a full face of makeup, then I do like to take the time to remove it properly. First up, I'll grab an oval cotton pad and take the majority off with Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (see the pattern, I'm a sucker for micellar products!). I've got a couple of bottles lying around my flat and love the little 125ml travel size for taking away with me too. Plus, it's super cheap! Next up, my all-time favourite skincare product in the whole world, Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish. It comes with a muslin cloth which I've washed hundreds of times and it's still soft! It doesn't irritate your eyes if you accidentally get some in them, and leaves my skin feeling so clean. I have repurchased this for bloomin' years. Apparently Aldi have released a similar version which I'm tempted to try (I'll report back) but in the meanwhile, nothing quite compares to Liz Earle.

I've got three favourites from The Body Shop, a brand I didn't realise how much I loved until I gathered these together! If my skin is feeling 'bumpy' and I'm getting more spots than usual, I'll reach for the Drops Of Light Liquid Peel. It's the most bizarre product, it feels like you're washing away a layer of your skin. Slightly gross but really satisfying at the same time. I only use this every once in a while when my skin really needs it. I often find exfoliators too harsh for my skin, so this is a perfect alternative.

I've banged on about the Himalayan Charcoal Mask many times. In fact, I've dedicated a whole review for it which you can read here. I use a brush to apply it (game changer, trust me!), and leave on for 10 minutes. It's a pain in the arse to remove, I get it everywhere and my flannel turns brown trying to remove it. Other than that, I've been pretty loyal to this for a while, and use it once a month to give my skin a good cleanse.

Before I finish with my favourite moisturiser and eye cream, I absolutely love the Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist. It's replaced my Lush Eau Roma Toner (still an amazing product) as I love using it when I'm having makeup free days to give my skin a boost. It's really rich in rose and instantly hydrates my face. I kept it on my desk during the heatwave we had recently, and will pack for my holiday to Croatia, so refreshing.

Finally, Clinique Moisture Surge is my favourite moisturiser. They do two versions but I actually perfect the Extended Thirst Relief as it's lighter and sinks into the skin better. I have a big pot for my bathroom, and several 100ml bottles for my travels, I haven't loved another moisturiser in a long time! I've also recently started using an eye cream, mainly because it feels SO nice around my eyes! The Drops Of Light Pure Healthy Brightening Eye Cream has a little metal applicator which is super cooling around the eyes. Rich in vitamin C, minerals and nutrients, and red algae, my skin really likes this.

There we go! Lots of lovely products to help restore my skin and give me the confidence I need to be makeup free more often. Let me know if you have any other recommendations for me!
