Lauren Conrad Beauty Book

Lauren Conrad is a massive girl crush of mine. I've always admired her style, gorgeous hair and her life in general really interests me (I watched all of Laguna Beach and The Hills!) I regularly read her website LaurenConrad.com, and I believe she has something behind The Beauty Department too which is an amazing blog if you haven't seen it before! I know she has a 'Style' Book too, but I was more interested in getting my mits on the 'Beauty' version.

I'd be lying if I said I've read the whole thing because I haven't. I'm a couple of chapters in but I felt enough to give my opinion. Firstly, the one thing I love about the book is despite it centralising on Lauren herself, they actually use a ton of different girls with a variety of skin tones, hair colours and face shapes. This gives you a more realistic idea of what they a preaching, something I really liked. My favourite section is the hair 'tutorials'. They use a simple black bow with different types of braids which I thought was so pretty! *googles where to get black hair bow*

The Make-Up sections are okay, but I prefer watching tutorials on YouTube as they're better to physically see how products are applied. That being said, the images in the book are really clear but probably better for a beginner.

The text is easy to read, the pictures are amazing and overall, I would love to receive this as a gift because it's so lovely! For the price of such a good quality hardbook book, I think this is a hit for any beauty lovers! I also mentioned it in my February Favourites which you can watch here!

Kate Spade iPhone 4S Case

I have this problem where I buy cheap things in the hope that they'll be alright but deep down, I know they're going to let me down. I've probably spent over £50.00 on iPhone cases in the last year or so, and they've all failed on me eventually. My iPhone is so important and I'm very conscious of the fact they brake so easily too. So basically I need something practical and pretty. When Three Mobile contacted me and asked if I would like to try out a case, I immediately set my heart of this Kate Spade Spotty one.

I've been using it for two weeks now and I can't believe it still looks brand new, its beautiful! The quality is beyond any other case I've owned and I just love the simplicity to the design. Its black with white spots, had a pink border and black edge. I personally think it looks so pretty against my white phone! Being black means you can't see any scratches too.

As you can see from the third picture, its actually two cases which you put together. Theres the black bumper case made from silicone which protects and cushions the phone. Then the main part is a hardshell polycarbonate case, which basically means its well protected. Very, very clever.

The case still has the ability to use a charger, plug in headphones, press the lock and volume buttons. The case even dips around the camera, which is great if you need to use the flash. The case snaps on, doesn't fall off but the silicon part means its also easy to take off too, yipee!

I honestly only have good things to say about this. Although it's pricey, I believe it's 100% worth the money and I'd recommend to anyone. I got a few compliments from others at bournemouth bloggers at the weekend too! I've had so many cases and now I can finally say that this one is perfect and will be staying on my iPhone for a long time.

weekend 23/24th feb

Thank you to Hannah, Tamsin & Leanne for image one, four & five!

So this weekend was absolutely brilliant and I've decided I should start saying YES to more things that come my way.

Firstly, I went to the Bournemouth Bloggers Meet Up on Saturday, held by Hannah from baileycakes. This was so much fun and great to socialise with other bloggers, especially ones who live close! I feel I've made some great friends plus, we all received fantastic goodie bags with our names on! Inside was a whole bunch of stuff from brands such as John Frieda, Next, LUSH, Jimmy's Iced Coffee and more. We popped into Benefit again to say hello to the lovely team there. Sophie showed us new products which are being released and we tried the new 'Fine One One' blush stick. I throughly enjoyed my day, especially seeing my bestest Megan as we've arranged for me to come up to her uni halls again this weekend, yay! (ps. go show some love and give her a follow!)

On Sunday, Rich and I spent some quality time together by having an extremely spontaneous trip to Swanage! We got on the Ferry at Poole and just drove wherever we felt like; stopping for walks, shopping and a bite to eat. Look how massive our scones were! The 7th photo is actually a painting we found on a wall too, cool huh?

I went for two job interviews on Friday, both went well. In fact, I got offered a second interview for one but I turned it down as I didn't feel comfortable there. I'm finding it really hard to find the right thing! In the meanwhile, The Beauty Closet hit record sales over the weekend, I cannot believe how many orders came through, it took me ages to wrap them all!

I'm off to post the orders now and staying at Rich's tonight. Hope you have a good week,

Wednesday Wishlist #8

This week, I've spent a very long time internet shopping. I'm lusting over loads of new stock that's coming into stores and really getting excited for a new spring wardrobe.
I've been wanting a Parka jacket for ages and although winter is disappearing, this is great all year round. It even has some shape it it, unlike others I've look it!
I've been using my Primark £12 bucket bag like crazy and I know its going to die on me. Therefore, I should probably invest in a leather one, I love this River Island one!
I tried this face mask earlier in the week and it was amazing. I'm going to buy another and blog about it because I loved the way it was an actual 'mask' you place on your face.
My eczema is driving me crazy at the moment, and someone recommended I tried the La Roche-Posay moisturiser. Quite pricey but I really need it.
Finally, I can't seem to last a night out in my silly heels so I'm thinking of buying some wedges to wear in the hope my toes won't hurt so much!

What do you think? Are you lusting over much recently?

Macadamia Hot Curling Brush & Healing Oil Treatment!

I recently had a lovely lady called Sara contact me and ask if I would like to try some products from Macadamia! Baring in mind I have super thick curly hair, she recommended these. My first impression was how well designed the brand is. The colours compliment each other perfectly and the overall feel if sleek and professional. It was particularly the glass bottle of the oil treatment which amazed me.

This Natural Oil 100% boar bristle brush is designed for 'ultimate heat styling'. It claims that the boar bristles maintain the hairs natural health and shine leaving hair smoother, shiner and more manageable. You can purchase the brush is four different sizes from 25mm to 55mm, I tried the second size at 33mm although I probably would need the next size 43mm in future. It's meant to be perfect for short-mid length hair, creating volume at the roots, designing body whether for straightening or curling.

I absolutely love the rubber handle and ease of using this. You can dry large sections and it doesn't tear or pull at your hair at all.

I do however have a major downfall which I'm so disappointed about! After about 10 minutes of drying my hair, I started to smell burning and instantly turned everything off. At closer look at the brush, some of the bristles starting to fall out! I couldn't believe it as it was functioning so well! I then considered if I was using too high a heat, but the packaging claims its 'high heat resistant'. Now I'm unsure if I use it again, I'll get lots of bristles in my hair.

On a different note, I absolutely fell in LOVE with this. Here's the key benefits:
  • Suitable for all hair types
  • alcohol-free
  • light weight (not a thick oil at all!)
  • extremely beneficial to dry damaged hair
  • keeps hair ultra-smooth, manageable and shiny
  • includes natural UV protection to extend life of colour treatments
  • reduces drying time by 40-50% (I looked into this drying time claim and apparently, because oil and water separate, when the oil is absorbed into the hair it basically pushes trapped water from under the cuticle out, and allows it to dry faster. I have to agree, drying took about 5-10 minutes quicker than usual too!)
  • beautiful glass bottle with plastic pump, so easy to use!

I applied one pump, rubbed it through my fingers to warm it up and put straight onto damp hair. My only concern is if you use too much on the top around the roots, it can look a little greasy once dried. Not a huge problem, as I tried to focus the product on my bottom half of my hair anyway, mainly my damaged roots. It definitely helped with frizz which I usually have a problem with when drying.

I researched and found they sell this exact same product in a spray form which I would much prefer as my fingers wouldn't be left oily and require a wash every time after using the product.

Finally, it smells absolutely amazing, fruity and herbal-like and I feel so confident using it. It is a little pricey, but I'm sure you could find a few deals about!

Final Thoughts?

The Healing Oil is amazing, I'll be featuring it in my favourites at the end of the month! Its great for whatever type of hair you have, but I'd recommend for thick or long hair. There's loads of sizes in the range to suit you, and it creates frizz-free, silky smooth hair. The smell is divine and it's a product I would give a friend or family member. I can't see me using any other hair oil treatment and I'd definitely buy it!

In fairness to the Hot Curling Brush, I had such fun styling and watching the video on what you can do with it. It didn't tug at my hair but I would prefer the bigger size. If the bristles didn't let me down, I would be recommending that too! However, I hasn't put me off and I'd love to try the Paddle Brush as a good brush makes a lot of difference.

Life Lately...

I recently wrote a post very similar to what this one is going to be but I took it down as I was feeling a bit crap that day and it came across all a bit too emotional. I didn't want sympathy votes as I'm absolutely fine, but life is just testing me at the moment. I almost feel like I'm starting the next chapter in my life, and I'm aware that the lack of videos and unchatty blog posts was showing that.

2013 didn't start too well. I won't dwell on it, but it felt like one thing after another going wrong, and my patience was quickly running out. I started to find it hard to cross the border of being too personal on the internet and what I felt comfortable saying and not saying. So, I decided to just update you on what's happening right now as moving forward is much better than dwelling on January!

Valentines this year was the first time I'd properly spent it with anyone and it felt kind of special. As Rich is 5 years older than me (trust me, I feel like the older one most the time!), he wasn't quite as thrilled about Valentines like I was. However he did come home with a dozen red roses, my favourite chocolates, a cute card and took me for a lovely three course meal at Bella Italia. Lucky girly! I too spoilt him with gifts and it felt like Christmas all over again! I do think that Valentines is all a bit too commercialised, but I couldn't help but feel a tiny bit excited.

I think the biggest thing that happened to me this week was that I quit my job! Again, this is something I find hard to discuss as A) I don't like people knowing where I work, B) My boss, colleagues and friends read this and C) It's hard to explain exactly why I quit. But in summary, I was unhappy. My salary wasn't that brilliant and I now want to put the skills I've learnt from being a Manager in a shop into a more specific role. I'm good with customer service, IT, writing and media. I'd quite like something in Marketing, PR or Events, so I'm taking some time off to look for jobs and find something that I can start a new career in.

In the meanwhile, I've been working for my mum and The Beauty Closet. This week, I learnt all about Sage and I've been inputting the accounts for my business. I'm not going to lie, it was tough but I'm getting the hang of it now! I also ordered lots of new stock, replied to a ton of unanswered emails, wrapped and sent new orders and basically my business got my full attention again. This little Woodland Rabbit Light is a new addition to the website and glows beautifully on my desk. It reminded me of childhood and secretly makes me smile.

You might have also noticed that I managed to get two new videos up! My brother lent me his Canon 60D so the quality improved and I spent ages editing my recent 'Get Ready With Me' video too. I'm hoping that as I'm free for a moment, I can continue with the videos and posts.

I also recently found out I have eczema caused by stress, so I've been trying to manage that. My scalp requires a special shampoo, my lips are completely cracked and hurt all day and my skin constantly needs moisture. However, I'm hoping that this time off will do my health a whole lot of good. I even went swimming on wednesday which was so relaxing for my muscles (and my brain!).

Finally, I'm going to leave you with this quote as it's my absolute favourite and one that I referred to when I was feeling down recently. My lovely friend Hannah sent it to me a long time ago, and it's been stuck on my wall ever since. It reminds me that life is very simple, there aren't really any rules and if we're unhappy, we have to change it.

I'm spending my Saturday organising a few bits and bobs before going out to town with all my friends tonight. Definitely treating myself to a strawberry mojito! ;)

Lots of love,

Betrousse Beauty Box Review

I was recently contacted and asked if I would like to try the Betrousse Beauty Box* and as I've tried GlossyBox and She Said Beauty, I thought it would be a great time to let you know what I really think! I explain all about the brand and concept in my video below if you wanted to see me unboxing and my first impressions.

Soins Experts Hydro Expert Cream 50ml - £34.00
I absolutely love the packaging and feel to this product, its very high end and the product reflects that. The moisturiser is thick and heavy, great for someone like me with dry skin. It smells nice and is definitely my favourite product in the whole box.

Skinetica Anti-Blemish Spot Treatment 100ml - £9.99
I've received this a few weeks ago so I've been trying it out for a while and I just don't see the hype. I tried it and didn't see immediate action, my spots ended up clearing the same sort of time they usually do. I would recommend this for someone with more acne-prone skin.

Charme D'Orient Relaxing Body Massage Cream 100ml - £16.00
This smelt like my grandma so I was completely put off! I would definitely recommend for an older audience, someone like my mum would love this massaged into her but I just wasn't so keen.

Montagne Jeunesse Dead Sea Mud Spa Face Mask - £1.49
I haven't tried this (it's going on my face tonight!), but I looked it up and its an actual mask that you place on your face if that makes sense. I'm tempted to do an individual review for this one.

Forte Pharma Turbo Slim Chrono Activ Slimming Tablets - £29.95
WHAT. I really wasn't impressed with these. I feel really uncomfortable using diet pills and I don't think any beauty box should be giving them out. Therefore, I haven't used them and can't review for you.

Tattyoo Temporary Tattoos - £5.00
Again, WHAT. I'm not sure who uses these but I think they're childish and I wasn't impressed to receive them. Maybe if you're younger than me they might be fun, but I won't be using these.

Saffron London Crackling Polish - £0.75
Seriously, I'm not even going to bother trying this because I absolutely hate crackle polish and for 75p, wouldn't expect a miracle anyway. Poor packaging and I would have rather received a normal colour.

Final Thoughts?
I'm not sure. I really like the concept but I don't know who they are targeting with this box. The tattoos, nail polish and maybe even the spot treatment would apply more to a younger audience, where as the other products like the creams are definitely better for older people like my mum. I would hate to think young girls are trying the slimming tablets! Therefore, I have no idea who to suggest this box to as it's a bit too mixed for me. I liked the face mask and can't wait to try that though. I'm going to keep my eye on the Betrousse Beauty Box website incase a great box comes up, but I don't think I would have bought this for £19.00.

Vidal Sassoon Shine Envy 2000W Hair Dryer

Vidal Sassoon Shine Envy Hair Dryer - £49.99 now £39.99, Argos*

I've never had an amazing hair dryer so I'm really not sure how to compare but before this, I also had a Vidal Sassoon white hair dryer which I got in TKMaxx a few years ago. So when I was contacted and asked if I would like to try out the Shine Envy range, I thought I would see how this hair dryer compared to my old one and more importantly, what it is really like!

Key features?
  • 'Ionic conditioning' locks in moisture to keep hair healthy and frizz-free - I'm not sure on this claim. It did lock in moisture but I can't say that it made my hair any healthier or frizz-free. The ionic or 'ion dial' feature is at the back of the hair dryer, but I honestly have no idea what use it has.
  • 2 speed and 2 temperature settings - I found that two settings is just not really enough. I realistically would like more for better results. The dryer only really goes slow or really fast and could do with a something in between. Also, the placing of the buttons is really odd. Every time I try to switch the dryer off, I found myself hitting the other settings.
  • Hanging loop for easy storage - I like this concept, but I have absolutely no where to hang the hairdryer! Think it would be better to have some sort of clip or feature to bundle the wire together when not in use.
  • Concentrator nozzle for controlled styling - I wouldn't buy a hairdryer without this as its so important! The nozzle never fell off during styling and is a good size.
  • Shine Envy orange colour - Inspired from the fashion world, they've used an orange colour which was a key autumn/winter shade. Unfortunately, I don't really like this and would just prefer black, maybe even matte black with glitter would be pretty!
Final thoughts?

I'll be honest, it's a good hairdryer but its nothing special. I think I would be disappointed if I had paid close to £50 for it. The cord is long and overall, its lightweight to use. However, the results didn't give me any 'wow' factor. I would recommend this for a younger audience or someone with short hair. For someone like me with thick curly hair, I need more from a hair dryer. If you would like to see the dryer in use, its in my recent video on 'creating celeb curls' which you can watch here.

What do you think? Do you own this one?
It's on offer with £10 off at Argos for £39.99.
